 Instructional Leader - Elementary Humanities

REQUIREMENTS: Successful candidate will be/have: a highly qualified leader, current and applicable NYS certification required, effective communicator (both written and oral), knowledgeable and attentive to scholar, family, and school community needs, demonstrated leadership experience.  We expect our leaders to possess a deep knowledge of great teaching and instruction, and to have demonstrated success in engaging and inspiring a school community to achieve high levels of student achievement. We seek self-reflective leaders who understand how race, class, ethnicity, income, disability, and other aspects of difference are integral to our scholars’ academic and social development and who have experience with urban communities like Middletown’s. Minimally 3 years of administrative experience. 

 

Duties:

  • Establish and enforce rigorous standards for student achievement that are in line with New York State and School District Policies, with specific attention and adherence to Policy 8110 (Curriculum Development, Resources and Evaluation).

  • Have strong instructional background in English Language Arts and experience in closing gaps associated with historically underrepresented populations.

  • Ensure the academic program meets or exceeds yearly student outcome goals as defined by ECSDM and measured by the state of New York accountability requirements.

  • Maintain active involvement in the school improvement planning process with the Building Inquiry Team and the School Improvement Team by providing resources for decision-making and priority/goal setting.

  • Lead teachers and work collaboratively with Department Chair Leaders in developing a healthy/positive school culture aligned with the vision, mission and values of the school and school district.

  • Create a culture of academic excellence, teamwork and collaboration amongst the staff, teachers, students and families.

  • Foster a school climate that supports both student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff and parents.

  • Work with teachers to improve their teaching practice and assure that all learning environments are providing rigorous and active instructional programming.

  • Remain abreast of current successful instructional methodologies and practices.

  • Provide high quality curricular training and resources to staff (i. e. professional development opportunities).

  • Assist in communicating the district’s vision that supports the school's goals and values.

  • Direct the oversight, coordination and assurance of the effectiveness of appropriate/assigned parent/community/professional advisory committees (i.e. National Academy Advisory Committees, Project Lead the Way Advisory Committee, etc.).

  • Assist in creating an effective team of parents, staff and community stakeholders who are committed to achieving excellence and are jointly responsible for the attainment of school and district goals.


 

SALARY:  Competitive salary and benefits package as per the Middletown Administrator’s Association bargaining unit. Twelve Month Position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide each scholar with an ongoing program of physical education leading them to achieve and maintain physical fitness and competence in the practice of physical skills.

  • Provide interscholastic, intramural and extracurricular activities for all K-12 scholars that will foster physical fitness skills, and a knowledge and understanding of sports and the principles of fair play and character development.

  • Assist leadership in effectively coordinating and supervising the 68 District interscholastic athletic teams and 120 coaches.

  • Assist leadership with all transfer documents pertaining to NYSPHSAA eligibility requirements.

  • Assist leadership in effectively coordinating away competition and District shuttle transportation for all interscholastic teams.

  • Coordinate and oversee all District and community athletic/intramural facility usage

  • Assist leadership in the development and evaluation of the programs of physical evaluation and athletics.

  • Assisting leadership in creating yearly Athletic Budget.

  • Assist in mediation and resolution of problems, issues and/or concerns which may arise and work collaboratively with Administration with concerns inside and outside the school community.
