  • This position will be filled according to Civil Service rules on a probationary basis or by provisional appointment pending Civil Service Examination.  The minimum requirements for the Civil Service Examination are A) a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institute or B) 60 credits and three (3) years of related work experience or C) Five (5) years of related work experience.

Instrutional Leader - Middle School STEM

 Instructional Leader - Middle School STEM

REQUIREMENTS: Successful candidate will be/have: a highly qualified leader, current and applicable NYS certification required (minimally SBL), effective communicator (both written and oral), knowledgeable and attentive to scholar, family, and school community needs, demonstrated leadership experience.  We expect our leaders to possess a deep knowledge of great teaching and instruction, and to have demonstrated success in engaging and inspiring a school community to achieve high levels of student achievement. We seek self-reflective leaders who understand how race, class, ethnicity, income, disability, and other aspects of difference are integral to our scholars’ academic and social development and who have experience with urban communities like Middletown’s. Minimally 3 years of administrative experience. 

 

Duties:

  • Establish and enforce rigorous standards for student achievement that are in line with New York State and School District Policies, with specific attention and adherence to Policy 8110 (Curriculum Development, Resources and Evaluation).

  • Have strong instructional background in STEM and experience in closing gaps associated with historically underrepresented populations.

  • Ensure the academic program meets or exceeds yearly student outcome goals as defined by ECSDM and measured by the state of New York accountability requirements.

  • Maintain active involvement in the school improvement planning process with the Building Inquiry Team and the School Improvement Team by providing resources for decision-making and priority/goal setting.

  • Lead teachers and work collaboratively with Subject Matter Leaders in developing a healthy/positive school culture aligned with the vision, mission and values of the school and school district.

  • Create a culture of academic excellence, teamwork and collaboration amongst the staff, teachers, students and families.

  • Foster a school climate that supports both student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff and parents.

  • Work with educators to improve their teaching practice and assure that all learning environments are providing rigorous and active instructional programming.

  • Remain abreast of current successful instructional methodologies and practices.

  • Provide high quality curricular training and resources to staff (i. e. professional development opportunities).

  • Assist in communicating the district’s vision that supports the school's goals and values.

  • Direct the oversight, coordination and assurance of the effectiveness of appropriate/assigned parent/community/professional advisory committees 

  • Assist in creating an effective team of parents, staff and community stakeholders who are committed to achieving excellence and are jointly responsible for the attainment of school and district goals.


 

SALARY:  Competitive salary and benefits package as per the Middletown Administrator’s Association bargaining unit. Twelve Month Position.
